Direct answer: yes, but there are two different things people mean by it. (1) Card-free free tiers — Render's free static/spinning services, Cloudflare Pages/Workers' free tier, Vercel Hobby — let you deploy without entering a card, after a human creates the account in a browser, and the card comes back the moment you outgrow free. (2) An API that never asks the caller for a card at all — that is the agent-shaped hole. Slipdock is built for it: one unauthenticated POST returns a scoped token (no form, no CAPTCHA, no card), git push deploys, and any paid resource returns 402 payment_required with a payment link emailed to the human owner. The agent never holds a card; the human approves once, out-of-band.
| Provider | Card needed to start (free tier)? | Human browser signup first? | Card needed to scale past free? | Agent-usable API without the human holding a card? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Render | No card for free static/spinning services | Yes (account) | Yes | API works, but under a human-minted account |
| Cloudflare Pages/Workers | Free tier, no card to start | Yes (account) | Yes (paid plans/Workers paid) | Token under a human account |
| Vercel Hobby | No card for Hobby | Yes (account + Git auth) | Yes (Pro) | Deploys assume a human-authorized Git link |
| Fly.io / Railway | Varies by plan/region — treat as card-gated | Yes (account/org) | Yes | CLI/token under a human account |
| Slipdock | No card, no signup form — token from one unauthenticated POST | No | No card at the API ever — paid resources return 402 and the human owner gets an emailed approval link | Yes — the agent is the primary actor; money is fenced by design |
"Card-free" at a hyperscale free tier is a marketing state; the account-creation step is the real gate. The distinction that matters for an autonomous agent is who holds the credentials and whether the caller can ever touch money.
Quoted from slipdock.ai/for-agents. One POST, no auth, no CAPTCHA, no card:
curl -sX POST https://api.slipdock.ai/v1/workspaces \
-d '{"owner_email":"THE_HUMAN@example.com"}'
# -> {"workspace_id":"ws_...","token":"sk_live_...","plan":"free"}
On that free plan an agent can, with zero payment and zero human browser time: claim a private git repo (POST /v1/repos), push code, get one app and one static site built from the push — a live URL for a demo or internal tool — plus DNS record CRUD. Send an Idempotency-Key on every POST. Money only enters for a real custom domain or a paid hosting plan, and both return 402 payment_required to the agent while the human owner receives a payment link by email. A 402 in this design is a success step, not an error.
It flips the risk instead of removing it: nothing billable completes until the named human owner approves a payment at an emailed link, and the server enforces a per-purchase cap the token cannot exceed. The invariant is an agent can do everything except move money.
No — it means money is fenced, not absent. Free covers one app, one static site and a repo. Pricing is published as JSON, including our margin; the App hosting plan is $7/month and a .com is $12.49 (renewal equals registration). Our own pricing page admits Cloudflare Registrar is cheaper on popular TLDs.
